I am installing Windows Blind 6 because Windows Blind 7 crashes explorer.exe all the time. Does anyone know how to fix this issue? I contacted Stardock Support and nothing works. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium right now.

Before I upgraded to Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit I was running Vista Home Premium 64 bit and the beta for WindowBlinds 7 and did not experience and crashes with explorer or any problems in fact.  It is running just fine with Win 7.

I don't want to go through all the things that Stardock support suggested, not doubt you tried it atleast once, correct?

Just asking, did you try the suggestions a second time?  I know with somethings that I try and correct it takes two are three tries sometimes.

And now the silly question, with WB7 not running you get no crashes?

If that is the case are you running any other software that is associated explorer that could be the problem?  Anything, it may be some type of addon or explorer enhancement.

I am running windows blinds 6 and its fine. I was running it without windows blinds and its fine. They said to remove Comodo Security Suite but I do not want to. I did remove it too. Comodo seems to be the best security application I have. They said to change the path of Windows Blinds 7 in the registry and that did not work. I am running the 32bit version of Windows Vista and I have 2gb of ram and 2 gb speed boost. I was running without Comodo and Spyware Blaster and the thing still crashed at least once. I tried these things for a few weeks already and I still have issues.

I think you will find in checking out different security programs and security suites that some of them don't 'play' well with all programs.  It very well me be that Comodo doesn't like WindowBlinds 7.  I have never used it so I don't know know.  Prior to getting a new computer with Vista I used the free version of AVG and several other anti-malware/spyware progrom on my XP system and had no problems.  With the Vista and now Win 7 system I'm using Norton 360 and have no problems.

Some folks have had to trun off their security when downloading Stardock software and programs in order to get a 'good' download.  Was that one of the suggestions given to you?  In Comodo can you adjust the 'level' of security that it applies or uses, much like do with your browser?

What is the 2gb speed boost that you have?

Do you have WB 7.0 or 7.01 installed?

Also are you able to provide any additional details on these crashes?

well you may need to update it then to 7.01

on Jan 09, 2010

What were you doing at the time of the crash?

on Jan 09, 2010

We have made a small change to the WB code which may help with this issue.  When the next update of WB goes up (hopefully some time next week) it would be appreciated if you could install it and see if it helps or not.  If it does not then we may need some additional information from you.

where is this 7.01? all i've seen for weeks for wb is 7.00 beta. checking for updates and hitting 'reset data' doesn't cause a 7.01 to appear?

on Jan 09, 2010

MadDeez...7.01 is up...for at least a week. Is 'show beta/prerelease versions' checked in your Impulse Preferences? If it is and you're still not showing it, uninstalling/reboot and reinstall might do the trick. Remember to recheck the 'show beta/prerelease versions' if you have to uninstall/reinstall thing.

If that doesn't solve it, check your registrations.

7.00 beta may be 7.01.  The easy way to tell is to check the About WindowBlinds dialog.

yeah, doc, i've done all that a few times. still no 7.01, tho. oh well. maybe next time.

I was not really doinhg much. Just viewing firefox.

Update: I just installed the new Windows Blinds 7. No crashes yet. I will keep you updated.

Ok. It did not crash when it started Windows this time and when the skin is being viewed but I downloaded a new skin and I clicked Open in firefox then it crashed. I then went into Windows Blinds then changed the skin and it changed to it without crashing. Its working fine without crashing right now while using the skin.

It sounds like you may have a WB/Firefox conflict... you could try going into WB settings and excluding Firefox to see if that helps.  The other thing you might try is downloading WB's to a folder and apply them from there, rather than have Firefox have them open in WB.
